CBCS Adopted Reading & Writing Curricula 

We partner with BJU Press for our core curriculum because it aligns with our commitment to academic excellence and a biblical worldview. BJU Press provides rigorous, research-based instruction while integrating faith into every subject, helping students grow academically, spiritually, and personally.

Grade Levels

Preschool

  • Curriculum: BJU Press Reading and Writing

  • Publisher: BJU Press

  • Description: Includes learning phonemic awareness through multi-sensory instruction, letter recognition, letter-sound recognition, and handwriting.

Kindergarten - Grade 2

  • Curriculum: BJU Press Reading and Writing

  • Publisher: BJU Press

  • Description: Includes phonemic awareness and phonics instruction to build decoding, fluency and comprehension skills, introduce visual and textual cues, and broaden vocabulary. Includes parts of speech, sentence structure, and handwriting instruction.

Grades 3-8 

  • Curriculum: BJU Press Reading and Writing

  • Publisher: BJU Press

  • Description: Includes grade-level literature anthologies, grammar instruction, writing assignments, vocabulary, comprehension tools, and literary analysis.

Remedial Programs Provided

Program Name: IXL

  • Website: ixl.com

  • Grade Levels Served: K-12

  • Description: An online adaptive learning platform designed for students in pre-K through 12th grade, offering a comprehensive curriculum across multiple subjects—including English language arts. 

  • Implementation: Diagnostic testing is administered at the beginning of the school year; students who test below grade level receive targeted remediation through small group instruction. Assessments are given mid-year and end-of-year to monitor progress and growth.

Summer IREAD Remediation

  • Grade Levels Served: Second grade students identified as “At Risk” when they take the IREAD and third grade students who did not pass IREAD during the school year.

  • Description: Daily two hour intensive remediation for two weeks right after school gets out for Summer Break. Students will retake the IREAD test at the end of the two weeks.
